By demanding damages from Canada for the wildfire smoke, Trump and his anti-science republicans are unwittingly endorsing legal claims pending in 51 lawsuits against major fossil fuel corporations.
The incredible stupidity of Bernie Moreno, Lisa McClain and the republican coalition makes me wonder if they studied science with Louie Gohmert who once asked a Forest Service representative:“is there anything that the National Forest Service or BLM [Bureau of Land Management] can do to change the course of the moon's orbit or the Earth's orbit around the sun? Obviously, that would have profound effects on our climate.”
The man at the top is psychotic. He lives in an alternate reality that he created himself. Definition of crazy! On top of a low IQ, cruelty, and extreme narcissism, that’s not good. Don’t expect him to behave like a civilized human being. When you keep trying to make sense out of crazy behavior, i.e., “why would anybody do THAT,” you’re dealing with psychosis. We know the adult is PM Mark Carney. More than likely Trump’s behavior is jealousy, spitefulness and infantile…but it really gets me because Trump has no room to criticize. While we are one of the biggest in emitting greenhouse gases and Trump has rolled back nearly every clean air protection, taken us out of the Paris Agreement, calls climate change a hoax and claims black air burning coal is good for you - well - ask the people with Black Lung Disease on this latter. Recently I read an article that Exon Mobil was aware in 1970 it would cause global warming and it’s here. It really takes the cake when a Republican introduces a bill, The Canada Fire Act, and they send Carney a letter. We sure have more babies than just Trump that need to have their diapers exposed and changed!
I am amazed and confused why we are governed by ignoramus solutions and elected people; surely the founding fathers must have considered this. I presume it was impeachment that they favored, but did they consider or overlook the fact that the impeachers are equally ignorant?
it even goes back to socrates and plato. the big debate about giving one man one vote was that stupid people will always outnumber intelligent people, so they will be calling the shots. all the machinations around that reality- the founders' attempts to "balance" power, giving rural states outsized representation, etc (rural states then were agrarian, ruled by oligarchs who owned other humans) were all efforts to ameliorate this fact. they obviously haven't worked, which suggests we will need to overhaul many constititional provisions. it's exhausting just thinking about it.
A lot about this has been going on in my head; I'm a Canadian (US ex-pat since 1992). Where I live here in BC we get not only smoke from BC but often from Washington State. My thoughts after T's remarks: the oil/gas barons back in the 1960s and 70s KNEW finally that the use of their products by millions over the world would be a threat to Life on this planet. They kept it a secret, and since the news was known, it's as if generations of political leaders have not cared. Now youths in some countries (as here in Canada) are bringing suits governments due to this.
yes, i place great faith in the litigation. eventually big oil will pay, but whether it will be in time to reverse the accelerating temperatures is anyone's guess.
