"The enemy within" - that is literally the only true statement Trump has ever made. Of course the who, where, when and why that follow are always an embarrassing child-like crayon tantrum scribbling of a lie.

The 6 lapdogs of the Apocalypse squatting on the Supreme Court are certainly an "enemy within" - perverting the course of justice at any possible opportunity.

It's all well and good to SAY something like that, but who is going to hold them accountable and prosecute them?

And do it in a way that complies with the law.

Just because they don't comply, it does not follow that we should not...either we hold the moral high ground, or we're no better than they are.

That said, we DO need to start working now to THROW (an old time organization that needs to come back, Throw Hypocritical Rascals Out of Washington).

I believe that addresses the most pressing, daunting and confounding issue of all. A carefully planned and executed sequence of actions by all three branches has trashed the rule of law, and trying to hold anyone accountable for anything is impossible without it. Hurdling the massive catch-22 created by this court involves either enforcing the law when the rule of law has already been obliterated or re-establishing the rule of law with all three branches standing in the way.

The SCOTUS6 have once again deployed pretzel logic to achieve their desired outcome, sidestepping the fundamental issue in favor of “process”. By doing so, they have irrevocably altered the role of the judiciary in reigning in a lawless executive Hell bent on violating our constitutional rights, instead giving him a green light to proceed. Though it should come as no surprise with this lot, it’s still breathtakingly shameful that they lack the fortitude to defend our Constitution which, in this case, is unambiguous on the issue of birthright citizenship.

I don’t think I did. This packed court knows they can hand down these 6-3 rulings at will; OK, 5-4 when CJ Roberts factors in what’s left of his “legacy”. Their attitude is, “Whatayagonnadoaboutit?” And the dust up in the wake of the ruling, with Coney Barrett getting personal, that’s the result of being called out for their heavy-handed approach to their absurd rulings. They like their omnipotence, just not to be labeled with it.

I, as well. It is, sadly, difficult to have much hope now. The wait for the next election had already become weighted with the question of whether there will be one, and now a million megatons (maybe we should call them MAGAtons) has been added to that weight. What may be the only hope we have left is being crushed.

The big "IF" in the final sentence here goes far beyond just history books being outlawed in five years. Factual history books may be not only banned but replaced by books labeled as history while being nothing more than pro-Trumpian propaganda, and then forced into school curriculums so future generations will grow up to be brainwashed.

I can't condone the criminality of what Trump is doing, and all who are backing him. They are just as guilty as him. That is the Supream Court, Justice Dept., and the Republicans in the House and Senate. We might as well throw out the Law Books, go back to 1776 and start over!

I share Sabrina’s outrage and conclusion. I read Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson's dissent and interpreted, not as an eloquent legal opinion, which it is, but as a plea from a citizen seeing our freedoms in jeopardy. If citizens can’t rely on the courts to stop authoritarianism, we become cornered dogs with biting as our only response. The Supreme Court majority wants to be under the rule of Donald Trump. So, whatever it is he needs to carry out his fascist intentions, they will do. That is clear to me. Biden should have expanded the court when he had the chance, but chose to respect the institution. And all the Trump supporters, in the public and government, want to be under Trump’s rule. It is much easier to follow than to take the responsibility to lead. The Resistance has to acknowledge that we are facing the kind of lawlessness that will make our work to preserve the Constitution even harder. We must remember that Trump’s military parade was to intimidate, not recognize the institution. He was angered by the troops not marching in synchronized steps and waving; he wanted an angry force. The Supreme Court majority knows all of this and still grants him the power to destroy.

Loss of power for individuals live without fear and to NOT have "life, liberty or a pursuit of happiness" means a lack of "Representation" - That is what our ancestors fought against in 1776.

A natural continuation of the "No Kings" movement is the "Lack of Representation" movement.

And thus a "No Taxation" movement...

I will not be paying taxes in 2025 - and in court the defence will argue the destruction of the USA Constitution by an illegal Government. In a blue state pay only state taxes...

your substack is better written than the supreme 6 did

in their biased prejudiced slanted warped ruling(s).

if they aren't getting paid off in kickbacks or favors from trump and his people

then truth and justice don't exist anymore in their minds either.

they and trump want everything 'their way or no way'.

the only way to remedy the situation is to enact term limits of 5 years or less on these bigots

and all the other prejudiced paid off bigots in the house and senate.

and since these people have already served more than 5 years

they should be fired along with trump.

but of course getting such a rule added to the Constitution would be almost impossible

since the republican people in power would never agree to terminating themselves

in favor of a better system. they love their corruption and lifetime hold on power.

WMEX radio station in Boston 1950’s and 1960’s public service broadcast:“It’s Sunday in Boston and time to go to church. WMEX urges you to stop and pray.” Well, prayer being the go-to mode for observant members of ALL churches, one hopes praying will help. But this is the Supreme Court of the rich, the well born, and the visionaries who have ground to dust the even-handed principles of justice. So what to do? This is not a Star Trek scene where you can beam off the planet. This is the reality of a government sponsored by billionaires and enabled by a judiciary steeped in originalism. Haven’t got a clue what to do. So maybe run and hide, wait for the next election. SERIOUSLY. Those of us who see the comet crashing into the earth metaphor are convinced elections are a quaint custom of the past. And the time is right for royalty and godhood status be granted. Thanks Coney Barrett for narrowing down the question in my mind, what timeline the make America great again people want. The 18th and 19th centuries.

Before airplanes, autos, radio, TV, computers, vaccines, and in parts of the country before indoor plumbing and indoor electricity and telephones.

So that is where we are going according to the MAGA people. Good Lord!

I think that's what makes this 'waiting period' so hard for many of us. Deep in our gut we KNOW that civil war is coming. We just don't know when. I haven't wanted to be the cynical one. But I've held out little hope of our courts being able to hold them back for long. It was made crystal clear last July 1st with their full immunity ruling the supremes were going to make sure DT remains untouchable. I also knew that he was going to win the election too. There's still too much misogyny and racism in our country to allow a woman to be president. In my mind I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop so to speak. An uprising there will be. California is just being used as a testing ground for what is to come later.

Expand full comment
David A. Brothers's avatar

Agreed. It's a challenge to envision an outcome that doesn't involve splitting the country. California is the testing ground because it's the biggest power standing in their way, the largest microcosm of the national resistance and a formidable economic force in its own right. In a similar way, my home state of Florida (which is becoming an increasingly loathsome place to me) is a microcosm of the MAGA right. One writer has even suggested that the national MAGA right is a macrocosm of Florida, that this state was crafting and modeling one-party rule before it became a national movement. I find it difficult to disagree.
