I wonder if Trump voters I know, one in particular who says she supports public education, will ever think about not only the practical effects of this deliberate destruction, but the future effects for our society & rule of law. What kind of society are they fostering stopping such services as Dept of Education provides for less advantaged students in particular?
It just seems like everything this so-called administration does is hateful, degrading to our society & democracy, and based on nothing more than spite toward our federal government. And more than that it shocks the conscience every day because it seems more and more everyday that what they actually want is to kill anyone not in the 1-2% or at least to have them become serfs with no possibility of a better life. Do they want us to become slaves for the wealthy? And how long before they go after the years’ long targets of the GOP, Soc Sec and Medicare? This arrogant SC majority has no conscience and, it becomes clearer with each ruling, no regard for precedent & established law itself.
First, Trump is not an American President and second the SCOTUS is not following the rules, instead tearing them apart to side with Trump’s madness and dictatorship desire. And this, “Shadow Document” bull is just that! The cowardly Republican congress you can forget, too. In 60 years of voting I’ve never seen a Republican Party like this one. Totally ignoring their job and bowing to a felon among other un-American behavior…like ignoring their job and Constitution. Since Trump and his misfits are seeming to do whatever they want, we are down to the courts, lawyers and the people working on putting a stop to this tyranny. Keep up the protest folks.
Yes, protests and resistance and non-cooperation with lawless orders. It has been said that at some point (3.5% of the population) we make it impossible for the regime to rule. I don’t know how that works but for now I’m going with the pro-American revolutionary experts.
Even if the conservative Supreme Court justices all had visits from the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future and decided they'd gone too far in granting Trump the powers of a king and tried to reverse any of their enabling decisions it wouldn't matter. Trump would ignore their rulings. The same would happen if the Deopmcrats won back control of Congress.
There are only two American institutions that can stop Trump's juggernaut to cement his absolute power. One is the military and the other is a critical mass of the population. Joined together, the truly patriot military and at least 50% of the population willing to take to the streets can become a credible force to return us to democracy.
There are several ways this could play out. We can look at 1930's Germany to see what Hitler had that Trump doesn't. He had the support of the vast majority of the people and of the military.
If Trump knew that there was a line he could not cross before the military would stand against him, and the people would risk their lives to protest in the streets, spending his final days playing golf with people who still worshipped him and fly on his new 747 might look really attractive. He could create for himself the illusion/delusion of godlike power.
Finally an honest answer instead of a prayer. This is not going to end in a non-confrontational way. Most likely it will be violent--and there are so many people who are DTS (Deranged Trump Supporters), it is likely to be widespread. And we've let weapons proliferate so much I fear a Handmaid's Tale sort of battle.
I'd fight if I could but I'm an old Marine Corps Vietnam veteran, now disabled. All I can do is spit in their eyes when they come to drag me out of my cheap ass apartment for waving my upside down American flag.
The majority of Justices on the Court subscribe to personal and religious beliefs that are misguiding their actions. They are favoring Christian Nationalism and the Seven Mountain Mandate instead of the Constitution of the United States and the laws passed by Congress. Trump’s election and his appointment of incompetent cabinet members who share the same world view have made this astonishing sea change possible and have set it in motion. All while Americans were asleep and ignorant. And Trump believes in nothing but himself. He’s their pawn. They aren’t doing it for him.
Tomorrow’s round of nationwide protests notwithstanding, at this point we’re going to have to follow the lead of So. Korea, Georgia and Belarus: we’re going to have to show up in DC by the hundreds of thousands and ring the Very White House until Trump and Vance leave in disgrace. From there it’s to the SCOTUS, until the SCOTUS6 also leave in disgrace. And we’d better have a plan to prevent James Michael Johnson from assuming the presidency. I really think we’ve reached this point.
FYI. Jeffrey Toobin has a guest editorial at NYT today about Trump's apparent plan to put Emil Bove on Supreme Court. ("For my friends, everything: for my enemies, the law").
We can continue to decry the horrible things Trump has done. It won't accomplish squat. This will end VERY badly for all of us. The 2026 midterms? Forget them, Trump is already demanding access to voting machines.
Uncovering information that makes Trump look bad? The Senate has already turned down a BI-PARTISAN effort to force the justice department to release the Epstein files.
Millions of people in history lived for decades under authoritarian rule when the majority wanted something different. It's only when there was violent uprising that anything changes--and often, history teaches, it just changes from one type of authoritarianism to another, aka, the French overthrew King Louis XVI in 1789 and wound up with Napoleon Bonaparte just a few years later.
We need historians to give us insight into what is happening in our lives. Lawyers and judges right now are equally divided and the ones at the top favor a dictator. The good lawyers can sort it out after the coming war--if democracy wins and history says that's iffy.
Hope? I'm all about hope, but I rely on actual history to statistically point to the future. I'm not a prophet, I just read history--a lot of history, and history does not favor the United States right now.
Unfortunately nothing can be done about anything Trump is doing, he has the courts in his pocket, Congress bowing to his will and many many more ordinary America Joes and Jills who think he is doing a wonderful job and are supporting him 100% none of them believe they are being manipulated it is replica of the time when the liberating Army force the German citizens to go to the concertation camps and look at the dead bodies and the ovens that had been used for four years - the peoples reply was " Oh we did not know that this was occurring ", even though the camps were located next to the village the people were brainwashed and had no idea of what kind of world they were living in Right now the United States of America is in this position, the people can do something about it , or can sit back and let things run their course so later on they can state " Oh we did not know this was occurring" but by then it will be too late to do anything about it

“Absolute power corrupts absolutely.” This is where we are.

The Grand Old Party of Honest Abe Lincoln has mutated into the (lower case) gutless obsequious puppets of pathological liar Donald Trump.

The inmates are running the asylum. What could go wrong? Everything?
just horrendous.

trump is now the great lawgiver -
everyone else might as well go home and wait to be deported for no reason
other than trump's selfish ego worship.
the supreme 6 have spoken - so let it be written - so let it be done.
Sir has a very strange definition of "Greatness".
I took my first reply to this and build my own Substack around it today. Could Trump be satisfied as the god of golf? Here: https://halbrown.substack.com/p/could-trump-be-satisfied-as-the-god
The disabled and disadvantaged have had a hard enough time getting the education services and resources they needed before this lawlessness :(
