A point made that needs to be - blinded by the continuous threats, changes and unbelievable, it can’t happen here…it already has, folks. All true Americans need to wake-up and realize Trump is not an American President, but a wannabe dictator. How many people can’t see how or won’t accept his admiration and love for Putin? All right in front of our faces. Further more, if the Democrats in congress don’t stop worrying about votes, elections, their own selves and stand-up right now, like not allowing this proposed funding to stop a shutdown, when will we be able to depend on them? It’s time to say enough-is-enough before we are truly under a dictatorship!

Holly Fucken Shit, Sabrina!!!!!!

You nailed it in one analogy, one I haven't heard before. Then you segued into a comparison we all have used.

The Native Americans couldn't see the tall ships. Even if they were bristling with cannons and the colonists had AR-15's

I also grew up wondering about how everyday Germans could let Hitler happen. This may have because of being Jewish or just because my father served on a hospital ship in the war.

The playbook for what is happening here, now, and may very well happen in a short period of time isn't Mein Kampf or Project 2025. It is in the history books but we don't need to look at them. It is common sense. Trump, his minions, and his enablers have already begun their blitzkrieg to turn us into some yet precisely undetermined kind of combination of a cruel dictatorship, a police state, and an oligarchy.

Even Trump doesn't know exactly what it will be except that whatever it turns out to be he intends to be the absolute ruler for as long as he lives.

Those of us who understand his psychopathology aren't surprised by anything he does. Speaking of tall ships (and those container ships are tall), the latest order to have the military submit a plan for invading Panama, fits with his need to be a saber rattling ruler who strikes fear into everyone he aims his wrath at. Putin invaded Ukraine, Trump wants to invade Greenland and Panama. He's ready to declare war on NATO.

Democracy loving Americans protesting won't stop him. He wants to find an excuse to declare martial law to stop them. Court rulings won't stop him. He wants to defy the court prove they are impotent.

Outraged Democrats in Congress and the outrage of media critics feed his cruel narcissistic hunger. Another Kent State Massacre won't stop him. He's a sadist. Bloodshed in the streets won't stop him.

All this adds up to only one hope - aside from his death - to stop this. It is for the military to initiate a coup. Last week I thought it could be a what is referred to as "a soft coup." (From Wikipedia) "This is also known as a silent coup, is an illegal overthrow of a government. Unlike a classical coup d'état, it is achieved without the use of force or violence."

Now I am leaning towards a classical coup. This would entail, among other actions tanks around the White House and eventually general as an acting president and holding free and fair elections when the county was stabilized.

You asked me how I got my ideas for my daily Substacks. Today it was easy. It was your column and the comment I wrote above. I did a little editing and added a little and this is the result: https://sabrinahaake.substack.com/p/the-oligarch-takeover-is-americas

Thank you again, Sabrina, for being one of the voices of truth and grim reality. We all must continue to push back, contact elected officials (even though it seems futile), unite for all types of progress and communicate the threat to others.

Hitler "legally" demolished the German constitution in 53 days! There's a great interview with Ralph Nader (Chris Hedges @ Consortium News) about how to take back community THRU activism. (Long read, but very apt.) Nader blames corporate media, and sold-out politicians from Raygun to Biden. Don't yawn. This is our wake up call!

By the way, a first foray of Spanish conquistadors into Yucatan was repulsed by natives (BY THE PUBLIC!) in 1517 — thrillingly described here: https://thehistorianshut.com/2019/04/13/the-costly-battle-of-champoton/

Also, unbelievably, Hitler came to power with only a plurality of the vote. He did NOT have a "mandate". And Mark Zuckerberg looks like a skinny clown.

notice how trump, Johnson and Fox News almost always lead with Trump's "mandate" from the voters. what a load. I guess 1.5% really IS a mandate to the math illiterate.

we are truly fucked. so grateful for the Tesla demonstrations. also, just for you my dear old friend, here's a TESLA spoof video featured in the column I'm on now. it's funny AF. hope the link works.

Thanks, Sabrina, for making a comparison that I have been studying as well. History repeating itself looks all new to the unread, like the GQP MAGATS. The founders warned us about the dangers we'd face: the "factions" and the unschooled mob. Education is the heart and soul of democracy and, now, we have the WWE tearing down the Dept. of Education. Orwell, move over. Have a blessed day!

Sabrina, you have provided what amounts to dereliction of their journalistic role by the mainstream media. I find that dereliction a perilous attempt to excuse what is happening with Trump/Musk/and the mutt JD Vance. A weak press at a time when the people hope to oppose Trump non-violently through peaceful demonstrations and boycotts, it emboldens them instead, and the people will be moving closer to violence as an option to save our democracy. There are already anti-Musk/Tesla violent incidents that may grow if peaceful actions are not encouraged. The Resistance is not going away, it should be reported as what it is, an anti-Trump movement with historic implications. Welcome back.

I love the analogy Sabrina! You put it so clearly, and it seems most people I know have no idea what's going on. I do live in a small town 3 hours from Seattle, so unlike Seattle, many people here voted for this if they voted at all. Of course not understanding the consequences of their actions.

We've lived in Port Angeles, Gateway to the Olympic National Forest, for going on 5 years, since we regrettably fled Antigua, Guatemala (after 20 years) during the pandemic. The people who live here have been very kind, and don't deserve this. We'll probably be okay, because, like always the poor and uneducated many of whom voted for this will suffer the most.

It's easy to understand how we got here, since we've been back in the States for 5 years. Citizen's United, social media, unaffordable education, inability to read, the decline/ resentment of the middle class, all things that a medical tourist, which is what I'd been for 9 of the 20 years spent abroad might miss.

Let's try to keep the faith, and have compassion for each other as we face the biggest challenges in my 70+ year.

I wish I was able to join my fellow beings in the streets, unfortunately I am not able to do so. I protested other wars of aggression (one of. which I participated in at 18 years old). That experience woke me up, so maybe I needed it?. I am happy to be woke! We need to keep the pressure on our elected representatives, something we can all do, support groups who are fighting for our rights, and of course support our fellow being (including our mother earth, who are under siege. Never surrender.

Thank you Sabrina for helping to keep us all sane, and informed.

You are brilliant as usual, Sabrina. What is your plan to get people to listen, to heed the call to attend to a democracy under threat? Threat they read it in the news. They hear it in the news. They talk about it with neighbors. And their silence tells me that they are okay with what Trump is doing.

Grotesquely and numbingly mind-boggling! We will soon have nowhere to run to and know where to hide from this hideous malignancy. We are like rats on a sinking ship refusing to climb up the ropes tying us to dry land.

Listen for the Jack Boots. They are here

all we can do is speak up, show up, and keep telling it. dems have been telling it, Bernie is telling it, Kamala and Tim told it. getting people to listen is another thing. as I see it, our problem isn't the 78m who voted for trump, it's the 90m who didn't bother voting at all, even after seeing J6. if we don't care enough to stop him, even after seeing what trump is, we have bigger problems- trump is just the symptom. fox viewers probably won't change until they feel real pain. the other 90? apathy? not sure when that will resolve, but it's also possible that real pain will be the only catalyst.

Actually, I'm amazed that Project 2025 has done such a bad job of it. They have already made it clear that their plan was faulty from the beginning. We need the bureaucrats, and they're probably already to the minimum, so getting rid of any of them is a disaster. Just what we always thought, republicans can't conceive of any negative consequences to their "great" ideas.
