Has anyone else noticed how it seems DT has completely lost the plot? I mean just read some of his posts shared from Truth Social in the past few days. Given that we're all aware of his tendencies to exaggerate along with his constant distractions this is deeper than that. It's as if this whole Israel/Iran situation is covering up something much bigger bubbling under the surface. But DT is acting as if he can't remember exactly what it is that's bubbling. Maybe I'm reading to much into it.

You’re not reading too much into it; the media is reading too little into it. HCR posted these Trump posts suggesting we need to take the keys away from a doddering old man. These are cut and pasted directly from Trump’s truth social account (if you can stomach it):

“THE CEASEFIRE IS NOW IN EFFECT. PLEASE DO NOT VIOLATE IT! DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!” Trump’s social media feed posted at 1:08 this morning. But within hours, Israel had struck Iran again. At 6:50, Trump’s social media feed posted: “ISRAEL. DO NOT DROP THOSE BOMBS. IF YOU DO IT IS A MAJOR VIOLATION. BRING YOUR PILOTS HOME, NOW! DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.” At 7:28 it posted: ISRAEL is not going to attack Iran. All planes will turn around and head home, while doing a friendly “Plane Wave” to Iran. Nobody will be hurt, the Ceasefire is in effect! Thank you for your attention to this matter! DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.”

A video on Trump’s social media feed posted at 7:15 tonight recalled Senator John McCain’s 2007 call to “bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran” to the tune of the Beach Boys’ “Barbara Ann.” Trump’s version used McCain’s “bomb Iran” chorus but was longer and had visual imagery of planes dropping bombs. In Trump’s version, the soundtrack to the video used the melody of Barbara Ann to say things like: “went to a mosque, gonna throw some rocks, tell the ayatollah gonna put you in a box,” and “old Uncle Sam, getting pretty hot, gonna turn Iran into a parking lot.”

About yesterday’s report debunking his claims re Iran: “FAKE NEWS CNN, TOGETHER WITH THE FAILING NEW YORK TIMES, HAVE TEAMED UP IN AN ATTEMPT TO DEMEAN ONE OF THE MOST SUCCESSFUL MILITARY STRIKES IN HISTORY. THE NUCLEAR SITES IN IRAN ARE COMPLETELY DESTROYED! BOTH THE TIMES AND CNN ARE GETTING SLAMMED BY THE PUBLIC!”

YES! This is exactly what I was referring to when I wrote he seems to have lost the plot! I read HCR every single morning. She's a treasure because of her straight forward accurate documentation of what is currently going on here. We need more of that too.

Ann, you're not reading too much into it. It is confusion taking its toll on an old man. TV Judge Judy has a saying, "If you tell the truth, you don't need a memory." Trump has so many lies swirling in his brain that he is unable to keep up when asked simple questions. If he is not demented, he is overwhelmed with confusion.

I'm thinking at this point he really is showing genuine signs of a mental decline. As a former dementia caregiver I recognize those signs all to well. It's been so easy for our media to skim right over it because they've watched him for years behave in such an erratic manner and speak so off the cuff they really have normalized his behavior. It's a genuinely scary thought to know he is who is 'in charge'. A characteristic of people with dementia have that's even worse with his personality is if any thought pops in their mind, it doesn't matter how bizarre, they then take it as gospel truth. Once they say it out loud it's all over with.

Thanks, Ann.

Yes, a general strike would be valuable, as it would not only demonstrate the people’s power to Trump, but also to the Yarvinites.

I don’t think even they believe their own hype that AI/robotics are sufficiently advanced to make them *completely* unreliant on meekly submissive plebes. Yet.

(I don’t think that’s ever happening , FWIW, as “AI” might be clever & increasingly so, but “intelligent” is not possible imho as these aren’t minds, or even mind-like: they’re simply bullshit machines with layer upon layer of bandaids to cover up the most egregiously obvious bullshit).

As long as this is the case, every bunker/silo/castle/etc. is at risk of being rendered unsafe by the presence of security staff, IT staff, maintenance staff, etc. Any one of whom could assassinate (directly) the Local Big Boss, or make that siloed existence anywhere from unpleasant to uninhabitable.

This reality gives me joy, honestly.

I think it’s the thrashing of a despot who already knows an internal coup is brewing.

Dangerous, but likely not as dangerous as what comes next for & in America at least, and possibly for the world.

I continue to draw some comfort from the Yarvin contingent’s seeming inability to take outside counsel (at least not from sane people: to a man they all appear to see themselves as supergeniuses).

So I suspect they’re overplaying their techauthoritarian hands. But still not good by any stretch of the imagination…

an internal coup is exactly what's needed, but I have no faith in any of the clowns surrounding him. suprisingly, to me, Joint Chief Commander Kaine seems to be an adult in the room. but his honest assessment of the damage the bombs created, which contradicted trump's bluster immediately after he issued his preposterous claims of complete destruction, will soon put him outside Trump's trusted circle.

You raise a very good point. Of course we're trapped like flies in a web just awaiting our fate as we watch this horror story unfold. We can only continue to try to hold the line. I do think a general strike would help our cause.

We're on the same page (as usual) and in this instance both wrote about the claim that Trump's bunker busting bombs obliterated Iran's nuclear capacity. I took a somewhat (somewhat?) more snarky tack in what I wrote: "No Joy in Mudville: It looks like Trump's big beautiful bombs didn't achieve deep penetration. Trump was Casey. He was at the bat. He had a big beautiful bat. He struck out." As I write this Trump is on TV at the NATO meeting insulting reporters and using the word obliterate again. He threw out numerous insults including just now calling Jerome Powell a very stupid person. I can only imagine what the leaders of other NATO countries think of him and say about him in private. He just used the word obliterated twice in a row as he lectured Kelly O'Donnell, calling her "people like you." Excellent substack and points. You should see how world leaders treated him at the G7. I was going to write about it, but who can keep up with all the shit coming at us on the fucking hour? Global press reported that he was put in his place by the adults in the room, and several US pundits talked about his childish early departure, including his direct and petty insults against France’s Prime Minister Macron, of whom Trump appears to be jealous, and Italy's PM's eye roll. Trump also brayed to the media that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer (who picked up his dropped papers and overall seems to have sensed how best to kiss his ass to get what the UK wants)and he entered into a trade framework protecting British trade because “I like them, that’s why. That’s their ultimate protection.” What a fucking mob boss, except he's too stupid. What does that say about the republican lackeys too afraid to act?

Breaking news: AG Bondi is busted by her former employee, a highly respected lawyer under R & D administrations, Erez Reuveni, who is suing her. (The party of "law & order" is a ficiton.) NPR: "Discouraging clients from engaging in illegal conduct is an important part of the role of a lawyer," his attorneys wrote in the complaint. "Mr. Reuveni tried to do so and was thwarted, threatened, fired, and publicly disparaged for both doing his job and telling the truth to the court."

You write freely on very important and controversial issues, which is an indication that you are not fearing the journalistic bashing, the Trump administration is threatening all who disagree with their policies and decisions. The Media and Democracy Project acknowledged Scott Pelley of CBS News for his speech at Wake Forest University, defending free speech. It is a monthly award, nowhere near a Pulitzer, but an acknowledgement that we are listening and care. I would like to submit your name for the award, but I must have your permission. If this posts it will be one of great moments in cyber history; it will only be surpassed by the anointing of the king of America and the cementing the title of ROYAL FAMILY TO YOU KNOW WHO. Diplomacy is the art of fostering political truth to ensure Armageddon never happens. These guys clearly embrace the philosophy of an Extinction Event, much like a dystopian novel. Immense resources are expended on Immigration enforcement. Like to see the budget line item on WME, specifically nuclear weapons. But alas, that line item is classified. Iran is now saying that their facilities were severely damaged, which is very likely a lie, because "everyone" has figured out that the way to deal with Trump is to tell him what he wants to hear, and then just silently do whatever it is you want to do. Why else would they say this?

The problem is, ma'am, is that most of the politicians in Washington live in a hermetically sealed echo chamber, where nobody actually LISTENS to anybody else.

I'm certainly not saying we should do nothing, but unless we can figure out a way to get out in front of the media without sounding like a bunch of radicals, we won't get anybody to listen to us.

I've actually reached the point, sadly, where most of my letters to my Congressman come back "Refused at delivery", mostly because I attach a delivery acknowledgement to my letters...they can't claim they didn't get them.

And I've learned that emails aren't worth the paper they're written on.

FD Rooseveldt declared December 7th, 'A date long in infamy' after Japan's attack on Pearl Harbour. Japan declared war on the United States and the British Empire while their bombers were in the air, heading towards their target. Dastardly, devious and devastating but strictly according to then international comvention if not law, 'legitimate'. Did Trump declare war on Iran before the surprise, but not surprising attack on its nuclear plants? Does his bloviating bombast coupled with a catastrophic disregard for diplomacy, common sense and world security compound his infamy?

I loathe the Iranian regime. But we are responsible for its existence. It came directly out of the 1954 US-GB coup that overthrew Iran's democratically-elected government because the Iranians sought to nationalize their oil industry. Then, we installed a vile dictator the Shah. An authoritarian right-wing state overthrew the Shah's government. I do not want Iran to have nuclear weapons....but I ideally would like to see all of them destroyed, which of course would include the 80 to 200 nukes Israel has. Until the Israeli and US attacks, Iran was not planning to join the nuclear club...but it might do so now, just to protect itself from Israeli and US attacks.

Second, Israel and then the US attacked Iran, which---though it may have sponsored terrorist groups (the record is not entirely clear), did not attack Israel until Israel bombed them, killing hundreds of civilians. And except for responding to Israeli devastation, the Iranian government told the US when and where they would attack US facilities.

Third, we should use the term "terrorist" carefully. If Hamas, the Houris, and Hezbollah are terrorist groups , and I think that is a fair appellation, then surely the IDF, with its genocide is a terrorist group. Alas, we call non-state actors terrorists, and deny that Israel's genocide is commits acts of terrorism worse, and more systematically, than the Hamas, the Houris, and Hezbollah combined,
